Hints to other peerages[]

  • According to HH3, Harrington is the Countess Harrington, wouldn't there be a County of Harrington or a Harrington County?Farragut79 02:09, March 23, 2011 (UTC)
No, in that context, Countess is used as the female form of Earl, the peerage in question being the Earldom of Harrington. -- SaganamiFan 12:06, March 23, 2011 (UTC)

Cadet Seats and Courtesy Titles[]

I have a few questions about courtesy titles/cadet seats, and how they are distributed among the nobility.

For example, we have a family that is in charge of a Duchy, and have Earl and Baron as subsidiary titles. There's Duke X, Countess Y, his heir and the Duke's siblings. So would the eldest of the Duke's siblings be Baron Z?

Also along those lines, how else are cadet seats distributed? Duke X's heir is the Countess Y, and each of those should have a cadet seat. But as the Countess holds a seat in her own right (as I understand it at least), does she hold the cadet seat as well? Or would her heir (being a sibling or uncle) hold her seat?

Finally, I know William Alexander held his seat in the House of Lords as the heir to White Haven/Lord Alexander until Hamish's kids were born, which was why he was created Baron Grantville, so that he could retain his position and become PM. Does that mean that there are now two branches of the Alexander family (the White Haven Alexanders and the Grantville Alexanders), or will the Grantville title devolve to become a subsidiary title of the main White Haven line?
