Salvatore Hammerwell was a Manticoran citizen and a notable composer.
Having been born on Sphinx, he was considered Manticore's greatest composer. His compositions, including his seventh work, Salute to Spring, were based on the natural beauty of his home planet. His works were favorites of Honor Harrington. In 1903 PD, she played the Salute to Spring during the Second Battle of Yeltsin's Star. (HH2)
The Lament for Beauty Lost was played during Harrington's state funeral after her faked execution by the People's Republic of Haven. (HH8)
Harrington also had Hammerwell's music played to her unborn son in his tube at the Briarwood Reproduction Center. (HH11)
Saganami Rising was performed by the Royal Orchestra in Landing in August 1922 PD. It was a tradition for both the First Lord of Admiralty and First Space Lord to attend whenever such an occasion occurred. (HH14)
