The Republic of San Martin was a small, single system star nation, centered on the planet San Martin in the Trevor's Star System.
Population[]
San Martin's population was almost completely composed of genetically engineered humans modified for high gravity worlds. The primary language was Spanish. Most settlement were located on the mountaintops and high mesas. (HH8)
History[]
San Martin was defeated in the San Martin War against the Star Kingdom of Manticore. (JIR1, "House of Steel")
San Martin was an independent nation until 1883 PD, when the People's Republic of Haven conquered that state in order to gain control of the Trevor's Star Terminus of the Manticore Wormhole Junction.
President Hector Ramirez was forced to sign a planet's capitulation act. During the subsequent guerilla war, Ramirez was arrested and shot "trying to escape", while his brother was taken hostage and died in custody. Because of the numerous victims, the Ramirez family became a symbol of the anti-Havenite resistance.
In 1910 PD, the Manticoran Alliance Sixth Fleet under the command of Admiral White Haven captured the Trevor's Star system. (HH7)
The Republic was restored and the San Martin Reconstruction Commission was established to restore the democracy. What followed was intense squabbling over a new electoral process, ending abruptly when Commodore Jesus Ramirez returned from Havenite custody. He was drafted as a presidential candidate, causing all but one opponent to drop out of the race, and won by a landslide. In 1914 PD, the Republic of San Martin officially asked for annexation by the Star Kingdom of Manticore, and Trevor's Star became a part of that state. (HH9, HH10)

According to the Annexation Act, San Martino peers were not to be seated in the House of Lords until after the next general election in the Commons. (HH9, HH10)
