The Raid on Alizon was a reconnissance-in-force conducted by the Republic of Haven Navy in the Alizon System early in the Second Havenite-Manticoran War.

Order of battle[]

Republic of Haven Navy[]

Raiding force:

Manticoran Alliance forces[]

Alizon System Defense Command:

  • a heavy cruiser division (present, but not engaged)
  • a destroyer element (present, but not engaged)
  • outer-system missile pods

Course of battle[]

The Havenite Aviary-class CLACs translated into normal and launched their LACs in-system toward Alizon's industrial infrastructure, almost immediately ran into their first targets: a pair of Manticoran freighters leaving the system and directly in the path of the advance LACs. Captain Javits of the RHN ordered the crews of the freighters to cut their impeller wedges and abandon as his LACs lacked the personnel to capture them. Both freighters eventually cut their wedges and their crews abandoned before Javits' LACs destroyed them. Continuing in-system, Javits observed that the local Manticoran warships weren't accelerating to meet his LACs at their normal attainable accel and corectly deduced that they were towing missile pods.

In response, Javits ordered a change to plan Sierra Three, changing course at Point Victor-Able forty-five minutes later. Changing course at Point Victor-Able, Javits LACs found themselves one million kilometers inside the Manticorans effective missile range from rest twelve seconds laters and the system defense missile pods launched. Thirty-six hundred missiles were launched, three quarters lost lock and detonated early, but nine hundred retained lock and continued through into the LACs defensive envelope. Three successive salvos of counter missiles thinned out the Manticoran missiles to only two hundred. Point defense laser clusters stopped another hundred, but the rest survived into attack range. Thirty-eight LACs were destroyed and Javits detailed one of his LACs, Wolverine Red Three, to pick up survivors that had managed to abandon.

Meanwhile, Javits ordered his units to prepare to launch on their Sierra targets before he switched channels and informed the occupants of the Tregarth Alpha facilities that he would enter extreme missile range of them in twenty-seven missiles, and would launch on them and any nearby extraction vessle within their range two minutes after that. He advised that they should evacuate immediately. (HH11)

Aftermath[]

In exchange for a third of the people they would have lost on an old-style cruiser, the Havenites managed to confirm NavInt's estimated of Manticoran system defense deployments, acquired additional information of Manticoran fire control systems and system defense pod deployments, destroyed eight million tons of shipping, and destroyed part of the Alizon System's industrial infrastructure.
