Planet

From Honorverse

An artist's impression of an extrasolar planet

A planet was, in human terms, a celestial body orbiting a star or stellar remnant that was massive enough to be rounded by its own gravity, was not massive enough to cause thermonuclear fusion, and had cleared its neighbouring region of planetesimals.[1]

[edit] Types of Planets

[edit] Earth-like planets

Planets formed the main habitat for carbon-based lifeforms in the universe known to man. Humans were able to settle on a number of worlds more or less familiar to their original homeworld, Earth. In some cases, like Grayson or San Martin, a certain degree of genetic manipulation on either the population or the enviroment was neccessary to make the planet in question livable. (HH2)

[edit] Gas giants

A gas giant was a large planet that was not primarily composed of rock or other solid matter, like Jupiter in the Sol System, or Uriel in the Yeltsin's Star System. (HH2)
