The Osterman Cross was the second highest decoration awarded by the Royal Manticoran Navy, only one notch under the Manticore Cross in importance. It was the senior most enlisted and non-commissioned officer award and was only awarded for gallantry in combat.
It was originall known as the Cross of Military Valor, but was renamed in 1543 PD in honor of Senior Chief Petty Officer Lorelei Osterman, who died in the battle against the Volsung Mercenaries. (MA2)
