Operation Sanskrit was an offensive military operation conducted by the Royal Manticoran Navy during the Second Havenite-Manticoran War. A follow-up operation of Operations Cutworm, Cutworm II and Cutworm III, it was planned as a deep raid against the defences and infrastructure in the Lovat System.

Operational Premise[]

After Operation Cutworm III turned into a crushing defeat in the Battle of Solon and Admiral Lester Tourville led the Republican Navy to a decisive victory in his raid on Zanzibar, one of the RMN's main goals was to reclaim the initiative of the war.

Therefore, Admiral Honor Harrington's staff formulated a plan to launch a heavy attack on the well fortified Lovat System, using the new Apollo missile system for the first time. (HH11)

Conduct[]

Because the Star Kingdom's entire strategic situation changed when Captain Aivars Terekhov chose to invade the Monica System in early 1921 PD, the Admiralty ordered the temporary stand down of Operation Sanskrit, postponing its execution by three weeks.

The temporary resumption of peace talks between Manticore and Haven delayed the operation further, but it was eventually executed on the personal orders of Queen Elizabeth III. The resulting Battle of Lovat was a huge Manticoran victory, and one of the most crushing defeats the Havenite Navy ever had to endure. (HH11)

Aftermath[]

After the destruction of most Havenite forces at Lovat and the death of Javier Giscard in battle, Havenite President Eloise Pritchart and Secretary of War Thomas Theisman saw no other choice but to execute Operation Beatrice, a direct attack on the Manticore System with the combined power of two fleets.
