The Moderates of the Church of Humanity Unchained were the faction loyal to the Protector in the Grayson Civil War, led by Benjamin the Great.
The Faithful, the extreme orthodox wing of the Church of Humanity Unchained, rebelled against the Moderates and began a bloody Civil War by killing almost all Steadholders and Protector John II.
However, the Moderates rallied under the command of John II's son and heir, Benjamin IV, and fought back. The Faithful were defeated when Barbara Bancroft, the wife of their leader Jeremiah Bancroft, escaped from them and revealed their plan to lay waste to the Moderates. The defeated Faithful were then exiled to Masada, while Benjamin IV, now known as "the Great", led the Moderates in rebuilding Grayson society. (HH2)
