HMSS Weyland[1] was a space station maintained by the Royal Manticoran Navy in orbit of the planet Gryphon in the Manticore System.
History
It was the site of Gram.
In February 1922 PD, Weyland was completely destroyed by the Mesan Alignment Navy as part of Operation Oyster Bay. The loss of life, however, was minimal due to a surprise emergency evacuation exercise being in effect at the time of the attack. (HH12)
Function
It received much of the RMN's most sensitive R&D programs because Gryphon received far less commercial traffic than Manticore or Sphinx. As a result, even though it was the smallest of the SKM's space stations, it was actually the busiest. (SI2)
Furthermore, to assist in development of new technologies, Weyland was the site of the Manufacturing and Prototyping Command led by Rear Admiral Warren Trammell. (HH12)
