The Seven Samurai was a 1954 CE Japanese film co-written, edited and directed by Akira Kurosawa. The film took place in Japan on Earth in the late 1580s CE, and followed the story of a village of farmers that hire seven masterless samurai (or ronin) to combat bandits who will return after the harvest to steal their crops.

The film was described as one of the greatest and most influential ones humans ever made, and was one of a select few Japanese films to become widely known in the West for an extended period of time, being the subject of both popular and critical acclaim.

The Seven Samurai was the source on which Grayson sword-fighting was, reputedly, based. (HH4)
