ENS (formerly PNS and later GSNS) Ishtar was a Mars-B-class heavy cruiser built and originally operated by the naval forces of the Office of State Security before her capture by the "Elysian Space Navy".
As part of StateSec's naval contingent in the Shilo Sector, PNS Ishtar was ordered in October 1913 PD by Major General Prestwick Thornegrave to join a task force assembled to secure and fortify the Seabring System (which had recently been recaptured by the People's Republic following Operation Icarus) against either a Allied counterstrike or an uprising.
After entering orbit of the planet Hades for a scheduled stop to embark "rehabilitated" prisoners and supplies bound for Seabring, Ishtar and the rest of the task force were compelled to surrender by Admiral Honor Harrington, who had previously led a prisoner uprising which had taken control of both Hades' ground facilities and planetary defenses. Now in the hands of the former prisoners, Ishtar was incorporated to the so-called "Elysian Space Navy", and Manticoran Lieutenant Commander Sarah DuChene was appointed as her commanding officer. (HH8)
Ishtar fought the Battle of Cerberus with the rest of the Elysian Space Navy and collaborated in the destruction of General Seth Chernock's entire task force. In the following days after the battle, Ishtar embarked as many former inmates as she could and left the Cerberus System with the rest of the Elysian Space Navy to join the Allied forces in Trevor's Star.
Sometime after the Elysian Space Navy's triumphant arrival at Trevor's Star, ENS Ishtar was incorporated into the brand-new "Protector's Own Squadron" of the Grayson Space Navy together with the other ships of the ESN. (HH9)
