[edit] History
The title of Elder originated from organization of Church of Humanity Unchained[1] - Reverend Grayson was supported by his First Elders.
[edit] Organization
The Council of Elders was comprised of mere Elders, Senior Elders and their head, the Chief Elder.
Meetings of the Council of Elders were called Conclaves of Elders[2]. Conclaves were gathered at the Conclave Hall of the Hall of the Just. During Conclaves any form of electronic communication was forbidden.
Position of Elder was elective, however it is not certain, who exactly elected them. Informal authority of the Elders within the Council was connected with their level of orthodoxy[3] (HHA4). Elders were privileged with some kind of political immunity also[4].
Few the most prominent Elders headed by the Chief Elder were described as the inner circle, that acted as some kind of Masadan executive[5] (HH2).
[edit] Operation Jericho Affairs
In 1903 PD, the People's Republic of Haven Navy pressed for go ahead of Operation Jericho. The Council would not go ahead until there is confirmation of the Star Kingdom of Manticore's gift to Grayson was verified. The Council was afraid of the Royal Manticoran Navy escort, and decided to wait until they left Grayson. Captain Alfredo Yu argued that it was unlikely that the RMN would lend its support to Grayson. After the disaster at Blackbird, Captain Williams, the base's CO, started to think that the Elders were being "too clever" and now it is starting to back fire. The Council was very nervous about Manticore's retaliation. The Council decided to stay quiet and did not communicate with the Thunder of God and Alfredo Yu.
[edit] Under Ocupation
A quarter of the Elders were murdered by their parishioners before Manticoran occupation authorities put the others into protective custody (c1903 PD). (HH5)
The Council of Elders remained however as a command of the Masadan resistance movement. In 1915 PD it organized succesful assasination attempt on members of Manticoran and Grayson governments. (HH9)
