The Battle of the Selker Rift was an armed engagement between the Royal Manticoran Navy and the People's Navy that occured in the Selker Rift in 1910 PD.

Prelude[]

After the successful First Battle of Marsh, the armed merchant cruiser Wayfarer, commanded by Captain Honor Harrington, moved to the Selker Rift to save the Hauptman Lines passenger liner RMMS Artemis[1]. Artemis and its convoy were being attacked by the Havenite battlecruisers PNS Achmed and PNS Kerebin. (HH6)

Course of battle[]

Shortly after destroying the convoy's sole escort, the destroyer HMS Hawkwing, and dispatching pinnaces to recover any Manticoran survivors, Kerebin moved to intercept an incoming vessel which was flying with an Andermani transponder signal, but which actually turned out to be Wayfarer.

Before Kerebin could react, Wayfarer launched a missile pod salvo which destroyed the battlecruiser, killing every member of her crew still aboard.

Luring Achmed away from the convoy, the two ships pounded each other into wreckage with Wayfarer being slightly less damaged, although both ships were crippled to the point where neither could translate out of hyperspace. (HH6)

Aftermath[]

Shuttles from Artemis eventually located the survivors of both ships on Wayfarer and brought them back to where Artemis was hiding while she waited for the Havenite ships in the area to leave.

The Havenite armed presence in the Silesian Confederacy was revealed because of the battle, and caused a diplomatic protest from the Andermani. (HH6)
