The Battle of Midway was an armed engagement in the middle of the 20th Century CE on Old Earth between units of the United States Navy and the Imperial Japanese Navy (both wet navies) in the vicinty of an isolated Central Pacific Ocean island normally called Midway.
The battle was a very important one in the conduct of the "Pacific Theater" part of the Second World War. As such, it was used by Admiral Honor Harrington as an example of how overconfidence could result in defeat during her tactics class at the Royal Manticoran Naval Academy. She ordered one of her students, Midshipman Gillingham, to prepare an analysis of the battle. (HH9)
