Ames Steading was a Grayson steading, or feudal province.
It was one of the first twenty-four steadings founded. In 1037 PD[1], the reigning Steadholder of Ames died without any legitimate son to inherit the Steadholdership. The Conclave of Steadholders decided to bypass Ames' daughters and proclaim the eldest of the late Steadholder's illegitimate sons as his succcessor. (HH11)
