Alexander III of Macedon (356 – 323 BCE), commonly known as Alexander the Great, was king of Macedon, a state in northern ancient Greece, in the 4th Century BCE. He was widely regarded as one of the great military geniuses of human history.

The Solarian destroyer SLNS Alexander the Great was named after him. (CS2)

Admiral Franz Quill named Operation Arbela after Alexander's victorious battle against Darius III of Persia. (HH13)
